Руководство «Херенвена» в лице технического директора Янниса Самараса опровергло информацию о скором переходе в лондонский «Арсенал» нападающего Йоргоса Самараса. Несколько дней назад, в английских СМИ появились сообщения, что 20-летний грек подписал с «канонирами» контракт.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that Brondby defender Daniel Agger has been followed by the club for a long time now.

Wenger admitted that when first contact was made with Brondby about Agger, the chairman of the club said he wasnt for sale. A deal is now believed to have been made.

Agger has been hailed as one of the best central defenders in Denmark for 20 years and Wenger insists he will be an option for the first team in no time.

"Daniel is a player we have been following for a long time" said Wenger.

"We first spoke to Brondby about the player when we were in Monaco playing the Super Cup final. At that time, their chairman said he wasn't for sale.

"We scouted Daniel for a long time but then he picked up an injury. When he returned to fitness we watched his first game back and we knew he was at the kind of level we require, even though he played only 25 minutes.

"We've been told he's one of the best centre-halves in Denmark for 20 years. A lot of scouts have spoken highly of him and there has been lots of interest from other clubs.

"I wouldn't say he was a particularly aggressive style of player. I think he is a very clever type of defender. His positional sense is very good, for example, and he reads the game well. Of course, there are areas he needs to improve, but he is young and we will help him.

"He will be an option for the first team within a short space of time."

Theo Walcott is poised to join Arsenal according to reports this morning

BBC Sport claims that Saints chairman Rupert Lowe was at Arsenal's training ground on Thursday to tie up a deal for the 16-year-old forward.

A number of clubs, both in England and abroad have expressed an interest in the most sought-after young player since Wayne Rooney's emergence on the scene.

The reported fee of £15m may involve Walcott being loaned back to Southampton for a period of time, or some Arsenal players joining the Saints as part of the deal.

BBC Radio Five Live football correspondent Jonathan Legard confirmed: "Southampton are pursuing a series of options, including a cash and Walcott loan back and a cash and players package.

"The Arsenal and England Under-21 full-back Justin Hoyte - currently on loan at Sunderland - could be involved."
